Carnauba Wax is a premium, plant-derived wax obtained from the leaves of the Brazilian palm Copernicia cerifera, often called the “Tree of Life.” Renowned as the hardest natural wax available, Carnauba Wax brings exceptional structure, gloss, and durability to natural and vegan cosmetic formulations.
This high-melting vegetable wax is widely used as a beeswax alternative in lip products, balms, and solid cosmetics, making it a cornerstone ingredient for vegan and plant-based skincare lines. When properly formulated, Carnauba Wax creates firm, stable products with a smooth texture and polished finish.
Because Carnauba Wax has a significantly higher melting point than beeswax, it allows formulators to create products that hold their shape beautifully — even in warmer environments.
Key Benefits
- Provides strong structure and firmness to solid formulations
- Creates a smooth, glossy finish in lip and cosmetic products
- Acts as an effective vegetable-based thickening agent
- Helps soften and protect skin as a natural emollient
- Ideal vegan alternative to beeswax
Common Applications
- Lip balms, lipsticks, and lip glosses
- Salves, balms, and solid moisturizers
- Mascaras and solid cosmetic sticks
- Vegan creams and specialty formulations
Formulation Notes
Carnauba Wax must be heated to a higher temperature than beeswax to fully melt.
- Melting Point: ~180–185°F (82–85°C)
- Use at lower percentages than beeswax due to its hardness
- Often blended with softer waxes or butters for balanced texture
Because it is significantly harder than beeswax, formulation ratios should be adjusted accordingly to avoid overly stiff products.
